My desire to be a Counsellor is born out of a passion to help people who are struggling with trauma and emotional and psychological distress as a result of upbringing, choices or unexpected life events.
My personal journey began growing up in a small town in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and whilst idyllic in many ways, life posed far more challenges than the eye could see. Being heavily involved in a Bible based cult with all its coercion, ostracism and confusion resulted in emotional and psychological trauma, for many, in ways that can be hard to articulate.
Reflecting back, it was this experience and studying Sociology that started a keen interest in why people do what they do and what makes them who they are. However, due to limited counselling training opportunities in Zimbabwe, I entered the corporate world as an executive P.A. for a number of international organisations. After relocating to the UK over twenty years ago, I decided to follow my passion and retrain as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist.
Whilst completing my Counselling Degree and Masters I worked in private practice as well as an Associate volunteer for a well-established local counselling charity. Once the Masters was complete I decided to concentrate on private practice and broaden my skills to include working as an Associate Tutor for Waverley Abbey College on their BA programme. Currently, whilst running Compassion Restoration, I am a Group Supervisor and lecture when possible, with my sights on expanding my work with trauma and spiritual abuse/cult survivors.
